The Berkshire Region

CAMPGROUND LISTINGSarrow.gif

regApic01.jpg The Berkshire area of Western Massachusetts has much to offer the camper. The majority of the numerous attractions are within easy reach by car. The area offers everything from beautiful scenery (lakes & rivers for boating & fishing; mountains, meadows & woods for hiking of all levels), to museums and other cultural attractions, to great antique & specialty shops (for a break from the woods) and movie theaters. If a departure from campfire cooking is sought, the area restaurants also cover a wide range, from fast food and very casual family-friendly diners right up to romantic, candelit dinners in historic inns. For more information on our beautiful area.

Four seasons of beauty and recreation. Spring and summer are the seasons for music, outdoor festivals and sports in a setting only nature and history can provide. Fall's magical display covers the hills and valleys in a myriad of colors. In winter, the sparkling white hillside beckons to skiers and winter sports enthusiasts.

The Mohawk Trail

Take Route 2 from Orange to the New York state border and you'll travel the 63 mile stretch known as the Mohawk Trail. It is one of New England's most scenic roads, particularly in foliage season. Originally an Indian footpath, then opened as the first automobile touring road in 1914, the trail follows the Deerfield River through mountain passes, sheer gorges and thick woodlands.

Historic markers, antique stores, campgrounds, inns and restaurants are but a few of the Trail's hundred or so attractions. You can fish in the Deerfield River; walk the Bridge of Flowers at Shelburne Falls; view Hail to the Sunrise commemorating the Mohawk Indians; or take back roads to visit the classic New England villages.
